At UpCircle, we make sustainable skincare products from ingredients that would otherwise be discarded. We’re doing things differently and are known as the pioneers of “by-product beauty”. Now UpCircle’s most requested product is about to launch: SPF! It’s set to be our biggest launch yet (launching late May 2022).

  • This product has been in development for over three years and has gone through over 25 iterations. We've created a one-of-a-kind, plastic-free and refillable high performance mineral sunscreen that works for all skin tones - without a white cast. It's formulated with the highest quality zinc oxide that blends in beautifully to protect skin and leave nothing but a natural glow. Housed in a glass jar with an aluminium lid and a FSC certified cardboard box. The 100% plastic-free packaging can be refilled as part of our Return, Refill, Reuse scheme. Natural, vegan, Leaping Bunny approved and handmade in the UK.

  • We know mineral SPFs don’t usually work for all skin tones, which is why we didn’t stop until we created an SPF that leaves no white cast. Here's some consumer testing feedback: “I have dark combination skin which tends to dry out in the winter. [The SPF] absorbed into my skin within 5 minutes. After this, there is no white cast remaining.” “This is the first SPF I’ve used that doesn’t irritate my skin! The scent is perfect, I'd describe it as ‘toasted’ lavender.” Skin-soothing aloe vera calms inflammation and quenches the moisture barrier, whilst humectant glycerin seals in hydration.

  • Our brand name encapsulates our core purpose: promoting the power of the circular economy. UpCircle also hints at ‘upcycling’, the process of making something better from things that already exist. Each product from our range has its own unique provenance given the circular economy element. Their unique story is part of what makes them so special. In our SPF we've upcycled raspberry seed oil. This is the hero ingredient. It’s high in antioxidants Vitamin A and E that not only boost collagen production for plumper looking skin, but also shield skin from environmental pollution by protecting against free radical damage.

  • Skincare is a crowded market. Lots of skincare brands can claim to be vegan, natural, handmade, organic, cruelty-free etc. and so can we, but we want to go beyond this. How many brands can claim that their products have saved literally hundreds of tonnes of valuable skin-loving ingredients from landfill? When we discovered that more than 500,000 tonnes of coffee grounds that are consumed each year in the UK alone are sent to landfill, we decided to start collecting coffee from cafes and transforming it into skincare products. Since launching UpCircle has saved over 450 tonnes of used coffee. Based on our current rates of growth this will rise to 1000 tonnes in the next 5 years. We also repurpose more than ten other by-product ingredients from varied industries, including the argan, tea, juice, date, olive and wood industries. Our brand has seen staggering growth in the last five years, selling hundreds of thousands of products per year worldwide. We're backed by dermatologists, industry-leading MUAs and celebrities and are certified cruelty-free by Leaping Bunny. We’re also certified plastic negative meaning that we remove more ocean-bound plastic than we create as a business, paying the wages of waste-workers in India.
