  • The lounge design creates a balance between intimate, private moments and communal, social gathering spaces. A variety of settings allow for a spectrum of uses from single pods to table configurations that seat up to 12 people. A series of datum lines have been introduced via joinery, wall cladding, dropped timber bulkheads and timber screens to create an interior landscape which breaks up the floor plate. Breaking down the linear, square floor plate, the space has been softened with curved walls and edge cues from Wave Rock, as well as the streamlined, aerodynamic forms of aviation design.

  • The architectural finishes, design cues and decorative elements are all inspired by distinct West Australian visual landscapes, from terracotta feature walls representing an iron-rich landscape through to custom made pizza serving boards from locally sourced jarrah wood. WA's Matilda Bay was used as inspiration for the finishes palette, with white washed oak timber alongside blue and grey hues creating a lighter feel in the scheme. Reminiscent of the tree-lined old growth forests, oak dowel screens partition dining stations and work points, while fostering dappled light and maintaining slight lines throughout. The design team also sought to reflect the red earth and iron ore deposits of the region via subtle design cues.

  • The interior is modern and contemporary, warm and earthy and is emphasised by the use of locally sourced colours and materials. Natural stone and warm timber are the foundation of the floors, walls and ceilings; tones of blues and greys make up the upholstery and carpet. Feature metallic tiles reflect our mineral deposits, Australian designed pendants hang from the ceiling and succulents are planted in hand-crafted ceramic pots featured throughout the lounge. Automatic blinds and curtains are used to frame large windows throughout the lounge. These are preset on a timer, together with the lights, to ensure maximum ambience and comfort at different times throughout the day.

  • The curved entry walls are clad in timber dowelling, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Reception Pods replace a traditional service desk and represent a significant innovation in service delivery. Each Reception Pod is made from timber and has a beautiful stone top with marble imported from Italy.

The spatial planning throughout the lounge has been carefully curated into flexible sub zones. The lounge works its way from a quiet meeting room at the front, through to banquette seating with flexible chair arrangements. Further on, a wine bar with seating around the perimeter serves barista-made coffee and warmed bakery items in the morning then transitions into a wine and antipasto bar after lunch. An extensive food zone follows, complete with our signature Business Lounge Grand Island Dining. Piping hot pizza is served fresh from the pizza oven. The pizza bar is a focal feature of the lounge and has been designed so that customers can enjoy watching the art of pizza making by our Chefs. The sports bar is where customers can watch sport on one of the big screens or enjoy a signature cocktail. Planting is used to frame each of these zones and customers regularly comment on the comfortable atmosphere.
