HiveKeepers is a radically simplified honey harvesting system designed for both honey producers and consumers. Its cassette-based design eliminates mess, complexity, and bulky gear, transforming honey extraction into a clean, intuitive experience. It allows anyone, anywhere to harvest honey at home, without needing to keep bees themselves.

  • The global honey industry faces two critical pressures: outdated, laborious extraction processes and widespread honey fraud undermining consumer trust. Traditional harvesting requires expensive equipment, manual labour and multiple messy steps - creating a significant barrier to entry and honey prone to quality loss and adulteration. HiveKeepers set out to solve this with a single goal: make honey harvesting as simple, clean and transparent as possible. The key design challenges included replicating bee-friendly comb geometry, ensuring hive compatibility, eliminating the need for filtering and enabling traceable, micro-batch harvesting without specialist tools or industrial infrastructure.

  • A closed system that allows the consumer to harvest their own honey using modular honey cassettes and a compact harvester. Bees fill reusable cassettes with honey; producers remove the cassettes and distribute to consumers; the consumer harvests their own honey. Developed over two years with input from engineers, industrial designers and working beekeepers, the rhomboidal cell geometry mimics natural comb and enables simple removal. Key roadblocks included aligning with bee behaviour, overcoming working with beeswax and designing a harvesting experience that could operate off-grid or in kitchens, on farms or in boutique production spaces.

  • HiveKeepers unlocks new potential across the honey supply chain, reducing capital and operational costs while enabling producers to create premium, traceable honey with minimal effort. Consumers can harvest ethically anywhere, anytime without owning a beehive. It eliminates extractors, filters, and stainless-steel tanks, cutting waste and energy use. Most importantly, it combats honey adulteration by strengthening transparency and provenance through direct-from-hive harvests. From hobbyists to artisan brands, HiveKeepers adds value at the point of harvest and redefines purity in modern food systems.

  • At the heart of HiveKeepers is a simple idea to make harvesting honey as easy and clean as pouring a cup of coffee. The system has two main components: Cassette & Frames Modular and reusable, the cassettes hold honey and fit neatly into customisable frames. These frames adapt to standard hive sizes by adjusting cassette layout, so producers don’t need to modify existing hives. Micro Honey Harvester A compact, USB-C powered benchtop extractor that spins cassettes to release honey in just five minutes per frame including cleanup. No mess, no filters, no hassle. Together, these components eliminate the bulk, mess, and complexity of traditional harvesting. Key features include: • Seamless compatibility with existing hives • Effortless use for any experience level • No wax damage, no filtering just pure, ready-to-enjoy honey • Compact, battery-compatible design for use anywhere • Ideal for traceable, small-batch production • Designed to make harvesting satisfying, not stressful Transforming a time-consuming chore into a fast, elegant ritual, it offers producers and consumers a new kind of experience: clean, connected, and rooted in quality. Honey extraction becomes a sensory, shareable moment, turning food production into something joyful and meaningful.
