Ozest

Rasp style zesters tend to have completely flat, or convex, grating planes which is inefficient when zesting round foods. They often have large teeth that are sharp and high enough to grate hard cheeses but trap food making them difficult to clean. The high angled blades dig into and remove the pith of citrus fruit, along with the zest. The designers set out to create a rasp zester that grated hard cheeses and citrus fruit with the same speed and efficiency, that only removed the zest with none of the bitter pith, and was easily cleaned.

Ozest’s zesting plate is concave to conform to the shape of fruits, increasing the contact area for faster zesting. 441 super fine blades are photo-etched and perfectly angled to create fluffier, more aromatic zest for maximum flavour, without the bitter pith. Clinging zest is cleaned from the underside of the zester plate by an innovative snapping mechanism. Energy from the user pressing the button is stored in a spring and released to snap the zesting plate against its frame. The resultant impact drops any clinging zest from the underside of the plate without having to scrape it with another tool.

A blade cover snaps or slides on for worry-free storage, protecting the user from harm and the blades from damage when not in use, increasing the longevitiy of the product. This clear cover also snaps or slides on to the underside of Ozest and doubles as a zest catcher to reduce mess. It also measures in teaspoon and 10ml increments, measuring up to 2 tbsp of zest, without the need for measuring spoons. A non-slip rubber foot provides stability when grating on a cutting board, while an indented bowl hook allows the user to grate over a bowl with ease and control. The concave grater plate hugs the citrus and maximises the zesting contact area for increased speed and efficiency, and safely guides food down its centre. Ozest’s super fine 1mm wide blades are sharp enough to easily grate hard cheeses but precisely angled so that they do not dig into and remove the bitter pith of citrus fruits along with the zest. The hardened stainless steel blades are also sharp and durable enough to grate nutmeg effectively and without dulling.
