  • Howqua River Lodge was crafted to create a refined, comfortable off-grid retreat in a remote alpine environment. The design had to prioritise sustainability, durability, and wellbeing without sacrificing aesthetics or performance. It needed to address the harsh High Country climate through passive heating, cooling, and robust materials. Maximising natural light, ventilation, and connection to the outdoors was essential, alongside creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. Using spotted gum timber, Australian stone, and natural linens, the interiors balance luxury with environmental responsibility, delivering a calm, cohesive space that supports self-sufficient, restorative living immersed in nature.
