Curvecrete is an advanced manufacturer and architectural engineering practice that exists to push the construction industry towards an exciting low-carbon and zero-waste future! We upcycle 87% lower-carbon emitting geopolymer concrete panels using waste by-products from industrial processes using our zero-waste curved robotic production process to create beautifully curved architecture.

  • Concrete, second only to water, is the most used substance on our planet. Concrete production contributes 8% of all global CO₂ emissions, and the construction industry is responsible for 40% of all waste in Australia. For every tonne of Portland cement produced, 600 kg carbon emissions are emitted. Curvecrete have set a goal to replace Portland cement-based concrete with a low-carbon cementitious material that: is sourced locally, sets faster, and produces higher quality architectural finishes! Curved architecture is traditionally complex and wasteful to produce, but when we experience curved architecture, it inspires us.

  • Curvecrete's curved concrete panels use 87% lower-carbon emitting geopolymer concrete utilising coal-fired power plant waste by-product fly ash and blast furnace slag from steel manufacturing processes. With the addition of alkali activators, Curvecrete are able to create a product with equivalent structural properties to Portland cement-based concrete, faster, and with a higher quality finish! We produce our curved panels on our zero-waste curvy robot production process. We have achieved engineering compliance for our geopolymer panels and have commenced scaled manufacture of them local to Victoria in West Footscray. The panels can be used on architectural facades, interiors, and urban artwork.

  • We made a low-carbon and waste reducing product beautiful and with expressive and highly functional curves! Our curved panels can be used on construction projects all around the world. Our curve production processes are 35% to 75% more cost effective to traditional methods. If our material and process were to replace concrete construction, humans would NOT emit 7% of all global carbon emissions. We've simplified the process to produce curved architecture, making it possible to unlock the power of curves for designers, cost effectively. Curves inspire us, we believe a low-carbon future that's beautifully curved is a pretty exciting one!

  • We are not only able to produce low-carbon concrete panels with a different curvature from the same robotic mould, but we can customise the texture and colour of the panels according to the project. We use methods like 3D printing or CNC milling to customize our moulds. We design and fabricate our panels locally in our facility in West Footscray. Our robots can produce curved panels up to 1800mm x 900mm in size, with a minimum curvature radius of 1.5m. By both designing and manufacturing our panels in-house, we ensure that the quality of every project we undertake is guaranteed, as well as its cost-effectiveness for our clients. We specialise in the creation of light-weight architectural facades, novel artefacts, sculptures, infrastructure elements, and urban furniture. Our research, design and commercialisation has been backed by AusIndustry, Skalata and private investment, The University of Melbourne and Swinburne University of Technology.
