Chengdu is the financial center in Western China, as well as a city of leisure, gourmet food and fashion. Subway Line 10 was especially decorated for 'the very typical taste of Chengdu', in order to promote the city's culture to the world.

  • As one of the famous tourist and historical cities in China, Chengdu needed to be distinguished from other similar cities. Thus, in our poster design, it was important to give a positive impression and let international and domestic tourists memorize Chengdu at first sight.

  • To promote the uniqueness of Chengdu, the poster series was displayed on the number 10 underground line. Its design is determined by four featured elements, panda, covered tea, hotpot, ‘Wide and Narrow Alleys’, which represent typical cultural characteristics of the city. With abstract and colorful illustrations, these posters convey, in combination with the depiction of famous sights, and attractive, open and friendly image of the city, the cultural characteristics of Chengdu; this corresponds to the claim: Chengdu is waiting for you.

  • Through numerous investigation and analysis, we extracted four featured elements: Panda, Hotpot, Covered Tea, Kuanxiangzi Alley & Zhaixiangzi Alley, to typically showcase the cultural characteristics of Chengdu, and therefore realized those features abstractly in the manner of freehand illustrations.
