  • Bonded House addressed the challenge of maximizing functionality and aesthetics on a limited-size block. The project aimed to create flexible, open spaces that enhance each other while maintaining privacy and a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. The client’s brief required a design that supported a growing family, sustainable living, and efficient use of space without compromising on style or comfort. The challenge was to balance these needs within the constraints of a compact site, using innovative design solutions to create a home that is both practical and visually appealing.

  • Bonded House solved the design challenge by employing a meticulous approach to space optimization and material use. The project features flexible living areas that blend and amplify each other, with hard boundaries used sparingly to maintain openness. A central light well and expansive openings enhance natural light and ventilation, blurring the line between indoors and outdoors. Sustainable elements like rainwater tanks and solar panels were integrated to reduce environmental impact. The use of brick throughout creates a sense of unity and permanence. The client’s fit-out background ensured meticulous attention to detail, especially in the kitchen and joinery work.

  • It enhances the quality of life for its inhabitants by providing ample space for a growing family and supporting a balanced lifestyle with dedicated areas for work, play, and hosting guests. Environmentally, it incorporates sustainable features like rainwater tanks, solar panels, and cross-ventilation to reduce reliance on mechanical systems. The design fosters community integration, enhancing the neighbourhood’s aesthetic appeal and contributing to local sustainability efforts. Societally, it provides a high-quality living space for a growing family while commercially it maximizes property value through high-quality design, setting a benchmark for developments in compact residential environments.

  • Central Light Well: A striking visual and functional focal point that maximizes natural light and ventilation, enhancing the indoor-outdoor connection. Flexible Living Spaces: Designed to blend and amplify each other, these spaces maintain openness and flow, providing a versatile environment for a growing family. Sustainable Elements: Integration of rainwater tanks, solar panels, and low-maintenance plants reduces environmental impact and maintenance burdens. Material Unity: The use of brick throughout the project creates a cohesive aesthetic and a sense of permanence, with spaces designed to feel carved from a single volume. Privacy and Openness: Innovative design solutions, such as the entrance ”cut” and perforated metal stairs, provide privacy while maintaining a sense of openness and connection to the surrounding environment. Meticulous Attention to Detail: The client’s fit-out background ensured high-quality finishes, particularly in the kitchen and joinery work, aligning closely with the original design vision.
