  • Reusable food pouches are a crowded category with consistent user frustrations. The category is also competitive with the accessibility of single use offerings. Products generally have small openings, rigid silicone bodies (not easily sucked from), unstable shapes and large footprints incompatible with Bento lunchboxes. A critical issue is a silicone pouch that can easily be separated from the rigid structure, creating a mess children can’t manage independently. The current landscape is separated into two product groups – Sucking bottles and squeezing bottles. Depending on the child’s age and dexterity sucking instead of squeezing can be beneficial as it can reduce mess.

  • The pouch to collar fixing mechanism was the defining breakthrough, engineered to withstand pushing, and squeezing of child use without separating. A rounded square form was adopted to maximise volume within the compact footprint of a bento lunchbox. The shield clips to the collar via the snap fits protecting the pouch which can also be removed for older children who have better coordination. As the pouch is soft, a child can suck contents from the bottle without squeezing meaning the protective cover doesn’t need to be removed for younger hands that have developing dexterity. It’s great for all ages.

  • The Bento squeeze bottle makes reusable food pouches accessible in both price and practicality for everyday family life. Parents gain a genuine alternative to costly single use pouches, with a product that fits inside the b.box ecosystem and is simple enough for children to use independently. Environmentally, the shift from daily single use pouches to a durable, dishwasher safe silicone and polypropylene product represent meaningful waste reduction over time. It promotes the use of homemade foods using fresh, healthy ingredients versus processed ready bought options. Commercially the product expands the b.box lunch range with a purposeful, affordable positioned addition.

  • The design improves upon shortcomings of existing products. A wide mouth opening for easy filling, accommodating thicker consistency smoothies. Contents can be poured from a blender or scooped in with a spoon. The soft silicone pouch collapses easily under squeeze and suction, giving children flexibility in how they consume the contents. The hinged lid with a lock in position and an easy open press fit provides for hassle-free interaction. The unique, removeable protective cover clips to the collar via the snap fit details, shielding the pouch during transport in bags. It also helps the product stand up as the pouch deforms during use. The spout incorporates a one-way valve reducing spills and mess. The patent pending silicone collar design uses a combination of silicone groove details with bridging elements that reduce localised flexibility, the pouch remains secure even when pulled or squeezed roughly by a child. A failure mode that affects many competing products.Minimal part count was a priority for ease of use throughout the project. Reducing cleaning for parents and lowering product cost. The combination of polypropylene and soft silicone was carefully balanced to optimise both useability and durability across repeated use.
