The World Design Organization (WDO) is launching a two-week virtual Design Challenge from 28 September 2020 – 9 October 2020 to apply design thinking to space-based research for life on Earth.

The Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, manager of the  International Space Station U.S. National Laboratory will support this challenge as advisors by offering insight into the possibilities that exist through research and technology development aboard the orbiting laboratory.

During this fast-paced virtual Interdesign workshop, space industry leaders and researchers, as well as designers will apply technical expertise towards co-designing solutions that best address three key challenge statements:

• How can space-based research address Sustainable Development Goals?
• How can we build an orbital university?
• How can the ISS become a business incubator?

Expected outcomes of this initiative, while varied, will extend beyond traditional design products, services, systems to include a number of proposals that can be used to demonstrate what space can teach us about life on Earth.

The WDO is looking for interested and passionate designers, as well as other experts in the field of communications, science or professional research willing to contribute to this important project.

So while outer-space is seemingly endless, space is limited to participate in this workshop.

The deadline to submit expressions of interest is 4 September 2020.
