  • CHALLENGE

  • MORE
  • The challenge was twofold. Many people are drawn to caravan travel but feel discouraged by the size, weight and complexity of larger caravans, particularly older travellers or those with limited towing or caravanning experience. At the same time, smaller caravans often come with clear compromises in comfort, storage, usability and liveability. From a design and build perspective, the challenge was fitting the function, comfort and capability expected of a larger caravan into a micro footprint, while pushing that footprint further through smarter planning. Every millimetre mattered, so every product, inclusion and layout design decision had to be carefully considered.

  • The project addressed this challenge by creating a caravan that feels less intimidating to tow and easier to live in, particularly for older couples with or without prior caravanning experience. The micro footprint reduced both physical and psychological barriers, while the layout was designed to feel intuitive, practical and comfortable in everyday use. A detailed CAD design process was essential in testing proportions, placements and product fit before production. The main roadblock was spatial efficiency. Every millimetre had to be refined and justified to achieve the required comfort, storage and usability without the caravan feeling crowded, compromised or stripped back.

  • The impact of this project is in giving older couples renewed confidence to keep travelling without feeling restricted by age, vehicle size or the demands of towing a larger caravan. It opens up caravan travel to people who may have felt overwhelmed, while still delivering the comfort, capability and liveability of a much larger caravan. Socially, supports independence, deeper connection to each other and Country through travel. Commercially, it responds to growing demand for refined, easy to tow caravans suited to retired life touring. Environmentally, its micro footprint supports a lighter approach to materials, towing and overall travel efficiency.

  • The Yonder Wanderer brings together a series of carefully considered features that improve usability, comfort and day to day touring. An easy access electrical hub simplifies operation and troubleshooting, making key systems more approachable for the user. A thoughtfully integrated internal laundry chute connects to external access, with the washing machine located below and a fold out clothesline positioned within easy reach. Outside, a multi use slide out preparation bench and an outdoor pantry with incorporated entertainment points extend the living experience beyond the interior. An electric awning and remote controlled mood lighting further enhance comfort and ease of use. Inside, the combined ensuite brings together the shower, toilet, sink and overhead storage in a compact, highly resolved space, while the cafe dinette offers 270 degree views and converts into both a comfortable sofa and a single bed, allowing the interior to adapt seamlessly throughout the day.
