WE ARE REWIND – The Cassette Player Reinvented

The objective was to build a high-end cassette player with a sober and pure design inspired by the first Sony Walkman that grants listeners a nostalgic experience and feel without the tediousness of using an analog player. Which is why one of ours main concern was longevity.

We wanted to bring modernity to the vintage charm of this iconic device. That’s why we drew our inspiration from Dieter Rams’ famous ”Less is more” principle. Neat design, simple lines, quality materials and meticulous detail, to create a timeless aesthetic that embodies both the past and present. Considering there is only one mechadeck manufacturer in the world in activity, we faced a number of constraints in terms of space requirements, if we wanted to integrate a rechargeable battery and a Bluetooth system in an aluminum case that risked blocking the bluetooth waves. A challenge we met with flying colors.

What if, like vinyl and turntables, the cassette player was also making a comeback? At a time when music is going digital, when everything is accessible in a few seconds, the magnetism and romanticism of an audio cassette has remained intact. The proof is the sales of audio cassettes have been on the rise since 2012.
