blueegg partnered with UNSW College to design the student experience for its new Applied Programs — short, industry-aligned courses in business and IT targeting domestic learners. Using service blueprinting and multi-stakeholder research, the engagement translated a high-level institutional strategy into a concrete, executable blueprint delivered in 14 weeks.

  • UNSW College faced regulatory pressure — government-imposed caps on international student numbers — and needed to diversify revenue by entering a new domestic learner market. While a high-level applied learning strategy had been scoped, the path to execution was unclear. The College faced ambitious enrolment targets, limited intelligence on domestic student needs, shifting technology platforms, and internal stakeholders requiring alignment. The challenge was to move from abstract strategy to a distinct, defensible, and desirable student experience that could be launched with confidence.

  • blueegg led a 14-week engagement spanning vision workshops, hypothetical journey mapping, and multi-cohort research — 22 external qualitative sessions across self-funded students, sponsored students, and industry sponsors, plus a 51-respondent student survey, and 22 internal sessions with 8 College teams. Research synthesis produced four evidence-based experience pillars: industry relevance, fostering connections, holistic support, and visibility of progress. These grounded a comprehensive target-state future student blueprint, a CX Solutions Overview, and a phased Horizon 1–3 roadmap enabling handover to delivery teams.

  • The engagement directly enabled UNSW College to launch applied learning programs with clarity and confidence, establishing a competitive position in the domestic upskilling market. Eight internal teams aligned around a shared vision. Value propositions grounded in student and industry evidence informed program design, marketing, and communications. With the blueprint in implementation, blueegg's design continues to influence strategic and operational decisions — representing a replicable model for design-led transformation in Australian higher education.

  • Four evidence-based experience pillars: Research across all user groups produced four pillars that define what students and sponsors need — industry relevance, fostering connections, holistic support, and visibility of progress — now embedded as the design framework for all CX decisions. Target-state student blueprint: A comprehensive map of the end-to-end student experience across 7 journey stages, covering student-facing touchpoints, backstage processes, technology systems, and support infrastructure — giving the College a shared visual language for how the new service works at every layer. Phased roadmap: A Horizon 1–3 delivery sequence providing priority clarity and enabling a clean handover to implementation teams, addressing the common failure point where design intent is lost in the strategy-to-delivery transition. CX Lab model: An embedded capability-building approach that made internal teams active participants in synthesis rather than passive recipients, creating cultural ownership and reducing long-term dependency on external design support. Multi-cohort research architecture: Custom discussion guides for each user group — self-funded students, sponsored students, low-SES students, and industry sponsors — run concurrently with internal consultations across 8 teams, compressing the discovery-to-alignment cycle within a 14-week constraint.
