Understanding Zoe is the first AI-powered, neuroaffirmative platform supporting neurodivergent children and adults across the lifespan. The name “Zoe” means life in Greek. Grounded in Australia’s largest study of neurodiverse family life (1,091 families), it delivers personalised, evidence-based guidance through an AI coach, collaborative care tools, and a Care Village.

  • One in five people globally are neurodivergent, yet support systems remain fragmented, deficit-focused, and built for childhood alone. Families spend 33 hours a week on caregiving and coordination. Nine in ten parents feel invisible, and 63% are neurodivergent themselves, carrying an intergenerational load existing tools ignore. Most disability technology is not built with the community it serves. After a year in market, Understanding Zoe undertook a full redesign, informed by research across 1,091 families and collaboration with users. The imperative: build something powerful enough to close a systemic gap, yet simple enough to reduce load rather than add to it.

  • Understanding Zoe centres on Pip, a neuroaffirmative AI coach trained on curated, evidence-based resources and validated by Australian researchers and clinicians. Pip ingests specialist reports, therapy notes, and daily observations to deliver personalised, plain-language guidance in real time. The Care Village enables coordinated support across home, school, workplace, and clinic. The journey was deliberately iterative. Launching to a waitlist in late 2024, then more broadly in early 2025, the team spent the following year in deep user consultation. Research across 1,091 families published in November 2025 informed a full redesign, relaunching in April 2026 with lifespan support for neurodivergent adults.

  • Understanding Zoe is shifting what neuroaffirmative support looks like in practice: from fragmented, clinical, and childhood-bound, to connected, personalised, and lifelong. Families report spending less time coordinating and more time connecting. The platform's April 2026 adult expansion marks a genuine systems shift, recognising that neurodivergent children become neurodivergent adults who deserve continued support. Pilots span schools, OSHC providers and corporate employers, with clinical validation underway across Australian universities. The Australian Technologies Competition named it 2025 Global Social Impact winner. Understanding Zoe is now expanding internationally, taking a distinctly Australian model of neuroaffirmative care to the world.

  • Pip, the AI Coach: At the heart of Understanding Zoe is Pip, an action-oriented AI coach trained on curated, evidence-based neurodiversity resources and validated by a multidisciplinary clinical advisory group. Pip analyses uploaded documents, therapist reports, and daily observations to generate personalised strategies in plain language. Whether a parent at 10pm or a neurodivergent adult navigating a workplace challenge, Pip delivers clear, tailored guidance within seconds, translating clinical jargon into actionable next steps.Care Village: Understanding Zoe is multi-user by design. Parents, teachers, therapists, employers, and support workers share a permission-based environment with real-time observations, shared strategies, and collaborative goal tracking, replacing fragmented communication with genuine continuity of care.Observations and Trends: Lightweight structured logging allows anyone in the Care Village to capture daily moments. Over time, the platform identifies patterns, transforming scattered anecdotes into actionable intelligence.Lifespan Support: From April 2026, Understanding Zoe supports neurodivergent adults, not only families with neurodivergent children, closing a gap that most platforms ignore entirely.Security and Mission: ISO 27001 certified for sensitive data handling and a certified social enterprise, Understanding Zoe holds itself accountable to both the highest privacy standards and its mission-first commitment.
