tigermedia, already established in the children’s audio space, set out to create a next-generation version of their original Tigerbox TOUCH, one that felt more personal, engaging, and better suited to younger users. The challenge was to design a product that could transform into a range of character-driven companions while still functioning beautifully on its own. The goal wasn’t just a tech upgrade, but a modular, emotionally resonant object that children could form lasting bonds with, and that parents would value in both form and function. Balancing charm, durability, and adaptability was key to meeting the brief.

The tigerbox MINI design consists of two key parts: the audio device and interchangeable animal-themed silicone covers that transform it into a friendly, multi-use companion for families. Collaborating closely with tigermedia, the team developed a modular system allowing for easily swappable covers that change the device’s look and feel to suit children's preferences. The user interface was designed to be simple, intuitive, and robust, making it suitable for children of all ages. Given its young audience, durability was essential. A standout feature is the spring-loaded control dial, which collapses inward on impact to protect the device from damage.

The tigerbox MINI delivers meaningful impact across commercial, societal, and environmental fronts. It offers a screen-light, ad-free storytelling experience that supports healthier tech habits and encourages independent, imaginative play. By providing a safe, self-contained alternative to open platforms, it helps delay the need for a smartphone giving kids freedom without the risks. Designed for longevity and part replacement and disassembly at end of life, it uses rechargeable replaceable batteries, durable materials, and modular covers to reduce waste and extend product life. Commercially, it expands tigermedia’s ecosystem through physical NFC cards and streaming access, creating recurring value for families.

At the heart of the experience is the tigertones subscription streaming service, offering ad-free access to over 25,000 curated stories, songs, and educational content. Children can explore content through a responsive touchscreen or alternatively by inserting NFC tigercards, which work without the streaming service, and offer a focused experience for families preferring a limited physical selection. Built for everyday family life, the unit has a durable shell and a spring-loaded control dial that collapses on impact to protect internal components. Modular silicone covers and animated digital faces transform the device into a range of playful, characterful companions. A high-resolution touchscreen pairs with a tactile dial that rolls over a physical pin for an intuitive, satisfying user experience. Children can skip stories or replay content with a simple roll. Two headphone jacks allow for shared listening, while USB-C charging and a secure, parent-replaceable battery support long-term use and easy repair.
