Styleware Nesting Tray Collection

Following the success of the Nesting Bowl Collection, there was a clear demand for a complementary solution that offered the same considered functionality in a more space-efficient format. The Styleware design team was tasked with developing a rectangular alternative suited to modern storage needs, while maintaining a refined aesthetic and intuitive usability.The primary challenge was achieving a liquid tight seal without visible sealing mechanisms, while resolving the increased complexity of lid engagement and removal across flat edges and corners. This needed to be achieved alongside durability, lightweight practicality, stackability, compact nesting and the use of food safe, recyclable materials.

The Styleware team translated key design principles into a rectangular form through extensive prototyping, refining volume, proportions and corner curvature to achieve optimal function and aesthetics. Subtle tray flaring, an internal lid rim depression and polished sealing surfaces deliver a liquid tight seal without additional components.Lid engagement was resolved through iteration, with the signature tab repositioned to the corner and shortened to improve seal release and visual balance. The flat lid enables stacking and proportions ensure versatility and compact nesting storage. Iterative material testing achieved optimal flexibility, rigidity and stain resistance, food safety, recyclability and microwave and dishwasher compatibility.

By responding directly to user demand for improved space efficiency and versatility, the design supports long-term use over disposable alternatives.The collection strengthens Styleware’s design-led positioning, contributing to commercial growth and brand recognition. Its adaptability across multiple applications encourages shared experiences and elevates everyday rituals, while durable, recyclable materials support a reduced environmental footprint.

Premium aesthetics were a key design objective, supported by custom tooling and moulding techniques that enable discreet placement of the lid injection point on the inner surface, preserving the external form. Softly rounded corners were carefully resolved to maintain a refined visual language while improving usability and cleanability.Significant development was undertaken to refine lid engagement across flat edges and corners. Multiple iterations of rim dimensions and material tolerances resulted in a secure, liquid tight seal achieved through subtle tray flare, an internal lid depression and polished sealing surfaces, eliminating the need for visible lips or additional sealing mechanisms.The signature tab, featuring an embossed logo, was repositioned to the corner and shortened to improve grip, durability and ease of seal release without compromising visual balance.Extensive material testing achieved the optimal balance of lid flexibility and tray rigidity, delivering durability, stain resistance and a premium weight. The flat lid supports stacking and plate-like functionality, while dimensional proportions ensure versatility and compact nesting storage. All materials are food safe, recyclable and suitable for microwave use and top rack dishwasher cleaning.
