  • 'Sitting is the new smoking' and scientific research has identified several health risks associated with prolonged sitting in school classrooms. With one in four kids and one in three teenagers in Australia overweight or obese, and very few meeting national physical activity guidelines, we really need to re-engineer opportunities for kids to reduce their sitting and move more to burn energy throughout the day. Regularly changing posture from sitting to standing also helps kids pay attention and focus in class, aids short term memory and even benefits academic performance in the long term. This research was the catalyst in designing an innovative solution specifically for the school classroom, and focused on four key areas 1. Safety
 2. Manoeuvrability 3. Functionality 4. Premium

  • Whilst the overall construction of the desk had to be tough and durable for the harshest classroom environment. It also had to be safe. This was achieved by the choice of materials and manufacturing process of the components. The three main components utilized materials that were not only robust but collectively created the unique new look height adjustable desk. The upper desk assembly has rounded edges and is made from blow moulded HDPE to give a soft look monocoque structure to with stand any abuse. The central column is made from anodized extruded aluminium to give a sleek but robust support. The base assembly is made from powder coated fabricated steel to give a virtually indestructible base structure.

  • Stability - legs have been configured with a maximum footprint within the desk as not to impair the ability to abut the desks hard against each other, yet have the ability to nest into each other. Grips - the four feet in the flat position provide nonskid pads to prevent accidental run away when in position. All metal components and cables have been enclosed/covered by the soft form injection moulded components. Components have been configured to eliminate finger entrapments. Certified to AS/NZS 4610.3.1999 for Furniture - School and Educational use. Part 3. Tables and Storage Furniture - Strength, Durability and Stability. Pass category - Size marks 4/5/6 Normal rating

  • A Sit Less desk was designed to give a slick skeletal form creating a unique stature, both individually and in classroom clusters. The aim is to enhance the classroom landscape by introducing a new inspirational and fun desk configuration. The inboard feet allow the desks to neatly abut against each other in any combination and orientation to give the ability for infinite classroom layouts. From the beginning the brief was to create an evolving product, one that not only maintains pace with the changes taking place with classroom technology but addresses the very real and exciting role the classroom desk can play in this evolution into the future. What is storage today is a charging station tomorrow, what is a pen and pencil holder today is a head phone port tomorrow [particularly beneficial for children with special needs] and what is a flipping work surface today is touch screen technology tomorrow and all the while we are addressing the future active behavioral habits of children.

General. Easy to adjust height via a press button to unlock the strut and raise/lower the desk top. Lower heights suitable for sit down use with standard chairs Desk back component, configured to hold tablet/iPad, pen/pencils and drink bottle Easy access underside tray to hold frequently used items during class activity. Foot rest to promote variation of foot support positions for both the sit and stand options. Unique 'Move It' • Stable foot pads, with recessed rollers at the front only to prevent accidental slide. • Ergonomic foot rest for sitting position. • Teachers are able to configure classes in many ways (E.g. Circle, boardroom, small working groups or traditional class room). • The classroom can also be taken outside. 'Tailor It' Kids aren't a 'one size fits all' so now ALL kids can have the appropriate seated and standing height. The ergonomic considerations and requirements to cover the required age span dictated that two desk sizes were necessary. 1. Junior -5-12 y/o primary children. (Up to 1.5m tall) Work surface height range 615 - 915mm. 2. Senior- 12 + secondary teen/adult. (Up to1.9m tall) Work surface height range 720 - 1120mm

There is provision for additional clamp on storage pods and fidget bars [accessories] that enhance incidental physical activity opportunities for the student. 'Flip It' The desktop has future provision for the work surface to be changed for any classroom requirement. This feature also enables a dedicated panel which can easily be configured to house a touch panel screen and computer. This option would have a Wi Fi connection to each so that the individual student is engaged live in-group classroom activity. 'Nest It' This 'storage' feature was important as it allows for next generation development of a charging station to charge the battery housed in the head of the desk. This feature will enable students to charge devices at school directly from their desk and for direct and discreet communication between student and teacher.
