Work boots have traditionally been designed around the shape of the male foot and male biomechanics. The challenge was to design a boot from scratch that meets relevant safety standards while supporting the anatomical differences of the female foot and facilitating the female gait. We wanted the range to be as inclusive as possible, catering for women with wider as well as narrow-to-average feet, those who need orthotics, and occupations with differing site requirements. Each style had to be made with quality, comfort, durability, sustainability and ethical production methods in mind, culminating in an aesthetically appealing and commercially viable product.

The process started with designing a shoe to cater to the anatomical differences in women's feet such as higher arches, narrower ankles and a greater variation in heel-to-forefoot width. Our specially designed bio mechanical, antifatigue footbed ensures all-day comfort and correct alignment through ankles, hips and spine whether standing or walking. The footbed is removable, revealing clever hidden depth to accommodate orthotics for tailored support. Style variations include a dress boot, bright colours, low cuts, zip fastenings, elastic gussets and wider toe boxes to accommodate anatomical differences and personal preferences, as well as safety features to meet differing worksite specifications.

These boots launched she wear as a company, filling a gap in the market and creating an Australian success story that’s been going strong for now over 11 years. They upped the ante for all safety boots marketed to women.
