RX Smartgear RapidFit Jump Rope

Rx approached Outerspace Design to develop a jump rope that can be quickly and easily adjusted in length without tools. Other criteria included: • Intuitive mechanical operation • Rope can be shortened and re-lengthened in seconds • Adjustments must be incremental by the inch • Doesn’t require cutting of the rope, creating sharp and frayed edges • Ergonomic handle for ideal grip tension • Suitable for high speed jumping including double and triple unders • Low resistance for efficient rotation • Twist and tangle-free operation • Durable construction for years of use • Compact format • Attractive styling and detailing

Outerspace Design was able to achieve all of the design criteria in a compact format, using some clever design and sophisticated engineering. An indexed stem inside the handle captures the rope tip in one of five positions per handle, for a total of ten settings across 200mm of adjustment. The stem is accessed by simply pushing a button at the end of the handle, revealing the intuitive adjustment mechanism. Dual bearings in each handle provide a smooth, frictionless rotational motion. The small diameter, tapered elastomer handle allows the surest hold with the least amount of grip pressure reducing forearm fatigue.

COMMERCIAL RapidFit’s user friendly design provides an opportunity for RX to expand its business into mainstream sporting markets beyond their well-established boxing and CrossFit base. The RapidFit enables quick, easy, tool-free adjustability in a compact format by using advanced tooling to create sophisticated features hidden within the handle. This includes a deep draw part with over-moulding and intricate clipping features for the release mechanism at the end of the handle. High contrast coloured branding is recessed into the handle so that it maintains an impactful image and brand awareness, even after years of use.
