  • As a bespoke furniture maker, Matt often received requests to resurface damaged or worn timber tabletops, a slow, frustrating process for clients who had to transport heavy tables, often in one piece, to and from the workshop. This highlighted a clear need for a more lasting, practical solution that gave clients a custom piece with a luxury feel that remained highly functional. The challenge was to design a table that preserved timber’s natural beauty while offering durability suited to everyday family life and remote work. It needed to age gracefully, meeting both aesthetic and practical needs over time.

  • This table was born from a landmark moment in designer Matt’s life. While playing under his handcrafted table with his toddler, he noticed the underside was untouched, sparking the question: what if you could flip it? This inspired the idea of a dual-sided, rotating tabletop. Prototyped in a family home, the design evolved through real-world testing, resulting in ergonomic improvements like the cam-operated mechanism. Inspired from aircraft engineering, a lightweight torsion box structure ensures strength without excess weight. The biggest challenge was creating a seamless, easy-to-use mechanism that preserved the elegance and visual simplicity of a designer timber table.

  • The Revolve Table reflects a return to core values: valuing lasting beauty, and rejecting throwaway culture. It challenges the norms of fast furniture by offering a solution that is both enduring and adaptable to a changing space and changing family needs. While many products claim to be environmentally friendly yet fail to last, the Revolve Table redefines sustainability through genuine longevity. Commercially, it offers double the value of a traditional timber table by reducing the need for maintenance and repair, making it a smart, lasting investment for both homes and design professionals.

  • The Revolve Table's most innovative element is the rotating tabletop, allowing for dual-sided use, families can flip the surface to extend its lifespan and accommodate different needs, such as casual meals or hosting guests. The rotating tabletop is made possible by a patent pending cam mechanism, designed and prototyped by founder Matt. Initially, a screw-and-bolt system was used, but feedback revealed it was slow and cumbersome. This led to the development of the cam, which locks with a quarter turn and remains secure during everyday use. It uses the spring force of the material and small notches to click and hold the tabletop in place. A standout feature is the stowaway handle, which engages the cam mechanism and neatly returns to its hidden position when not in use. The fixed cam locations within the legs allow for easy tabletop exchange or upgrades, enabling users to scale the table from 1.4 to 3 meters without replacing the legs. This adaptability is supported by a lightweight yet strong torsion box structure. Additionally, the nature of the design means that there is no inhibiting structure underneath, allowing for unrestricted leg space when sitting at the table.
