The new QIC workspace in Sydney marks a significant advancement in the evolution of the QIC workplace portfolio. Drawing lessons from the Melbourne office, completed during the pandemic, the Sydney office aimed to create a space that emphasises sustainability, supports business growth, prioritises people, and encourages innovation.

  • QIC had outgrown their previous space and required a more dynamic, flexible environment to support their evolving business. The new Sydney workspace at 1 Bligh delivers a refined and functional solution, thoughtfully designed to enhance connectivity and collaboration. The building’s iconic curved floorplate is balanced by linear planning, providing clear sightlines and defined circulation paths that improve flow and team interaction. At the heart of the workplace is a central social hub, extending from the waiting area and business lounge, with uninterrupted views of Sydney Harbour, fostering engagement among staff and clients and anchoring the workplace experience.

  • QIC looked for a new location and design that would reflect the brand and culture of their high-performing team. The space should be adaptable into the future and a place clients and staff alike would love to be proud of. The selected material palette creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The natural materials enhance the space's warmth, providing layering and movement through textures and patterns rather than solely relying on decorative elements. They ground the space within the more starkly designed building Architecture, effectively contrasting the glass, aluminium metalwork, and concrete to create a sanctuary within a larger environment.

  • The new QIC workspace offers a diverse and inclusive environment, empowering employees to choose their ideal settings through bespoke furniture, adjustable lighting, and flexible work zones. Sustainability and wellness are embedded in the design, reflected through partnerships with local artists and makers that support community and culture. The project has achieved a 6-Star Green Star rating and is targeting WELL Platinum certification, demonstrating QIC’s commitment to environmental responsibility and holistic employee wellbeing. Key features, such as wellness zones, gender-neutral bathrooms, showers, first aid facilities, and a fresh air retreat, contribute to a healthier, more connected, and future-ready workplace.

  • The design features a carefully curated materials palette that reflects QIC’s brand identity while enhancing the user experience. Natural timber introduces warmth and tactility, softening the building’s architectural edges and creating a more inviting atmosphere from arrival through to the workspace. A layered approach to colour, featuring green and tan tones, adds depth and comfort, with intentional colour blocking used to define zones and evoke a sense of familiarity. Natural stone anchors the design, offering texture and movement while reinforcing the palette’s refined aesthetic. Together, these materials create a calm, grounded environment that supports focus, collaboration, and a sense of belonging.
