Project BMX addresses the gap in the market for BMX cruiser-style E-Bikes. Despite advancements in E-Bike technology for mountain biking and commuting, recreational E-Bikes often suffer from bulky frames dictated by battery placement, poor weight distribution, and an aesthetic resembling motorcycles. The challenge was to prioritize the user’s riding experience above all elese by creating a lightweight, well-balanced E-Bike that preserves the nostalgic BMX aesthetic while also offering the latest in electronic dirve system technology.

Project BMX allows riders to immerse themselves in the ride experience, with the electric components disappearing into the background. To achieve this, a custom saddle hides a 36V battery which is hidden from view while riding. Its size a perfect balance between range, power and rider ergonomics. Custom coiled cables overcame wiring integration challenges, preserving the BMX silhouette and allowingfull saddle adjustability for natural riding positions. Designed over 2 years, landmark moments include dialling in the mid-drive motor output for accurate pedal assist and optimising frame geometry with weight distribution to ensure agility and responsive control.

Built around a durable chromoly frame with a nimble 24” design, Project BMX stands out with its innovative features. A first-of-its-kind rear hub mount bracket was developed to accommodate the iconic Skyway Tuff wheels along with a rear disc brake setup. This innovation marks the first time these old-school 5-spoke wheels have been used on an eBike. The bike is configurable to multiple wheel and brake set ups to suit rider preference. The 500W mid-drive motor mounted directly into the frame offers superior weight distribution and performance. With pedal assist, optional throttle control and five speed modes, riders can customize their experience to further suit their riding style. Multiple firmware’s allow the system to run in an unlimited setting or a limited 250W setting, compliant with global Class 2 personal mobility device laws, ensuring the product’s adaptability to multiple markets. The saddle incorporates a rail and lock mechanism for quick battery swapping, enabling riders to extend their range effortlessly. A spring-style coil cable was developed to allow full saddle adjustment, enhancing the rider’s comfort and control. A waterproof LED display provides essential ride information, ensuring that riders stay informed about speed, battery status, and mode selection without distraction.
