Lumio sought to reimagine the traditional desk lamp and create a functional, but fun product that could highlight the balance between work and play. The creation had to offer an ambient mode that creates a soft, relaxing atmosphere, perfect for winding down at the end of the day. Whilst easily switching to directional lighting for reading or work tasks. Finally, it had to fit into modern homes and spaces where versatility and aesthetics converge. This led to Ovo desk lamp, a visionary lighting solution that encapsulates the brand’s essence of versatility, beauty, and playfulness.

Ovo’s inspiration came from the captivating movement of Alexander Calder’s sculptures evoking nostalgic moments of childhood joy playing on a seesaw. These memories inspired us to create a product that isn’t just functional, but also interactive and playful. It doubles as a kinetic sculpture and customizable desk lamp. As a portable light, Ovo effortlessly transitions between two modes: a task lamp when you need focused lighting, and an ambient lamp when you want a warm, soothing atmosphere. Like a seesaw, it invites you to find balance - and in the process, to illuminate your space in a way that’s truly unique.

Lumio exists to evoke a warmth too often absent from contemporary technology. Our creations push back against the over-stimulated and rushed world we live in — carefully made creations that spark delight, re-engage the senses and remind us what it means to be human. Ovo is our second product in the lighting category and engages the senses of sight and touch. It invites interaction from tilting it to turn on the light, rotating to focus where you need it, and tapping to adjust brightness levels.
