  • For years, Melbourne Recital Centre has thrived thanks to the devotion of loyal patrons and generous donors. Without welcoming new, younger audiences, the Centre’s future support is at risk of fading. “Music for the daring” became our rallying call — an invitation to curiosity, energy, and connection. Inspired by the Centre’s striking architecture, we wove bold visuals, dynamic motion, and a custom digital tool into a vibrant new identity. This rebrand bridges generations, celebrates adventurous spirits, and transforms MRC into an inclusive, modern destination where all music lovers feel at home — preserving its legacy for years to come.

  • Extensive research revealed Melbourne Recital Centre’s need to bridge generations and genres. “Music for the daring” became our rallying call-honouring loyal patrons while beckoning new, curious audiences. Inspired by the venue’s hexagonal “honeycomb” architecture, we crafted a flexible visual identity: bold, adaptive graphics, a distinctive logomark, and dynamic motion expressing live music energy. A custom digital tool streamlines creation of promotional assets, ensuring accessibility and consistency. Key moments included co-design workshops and overcoming perceptions of exclusivity. The result is a vibrant, living brand that positions MRC as an adventurous, inclusive destination at the heart of Melbourne’s evolving arts scene.

  • The bold new identity and “Music for the daring” narrative have transformed MRC into a vibrant, inclusive hub, attracting first-time visitors and reshaping perceptions. A custom digital tool has boosted efficiency, reduced resource use, and ensured brand consistency. The rebrand’s architectural motifs and dynamic motion design reinforce MRC’s cultural leadership. As the Arts Precinct evolves, MRC now leads the conversation on live music’s future in Melbourne, future-proofing its identity in a culture-loving city. Most importantly, the transformation has reignited excitement and pride among staff, empowering them to champion MRC’s adventurous vision and welcome a new era for live music.

  • The Melbourne Recital Centre rebrand is anchored in the venue’s iconic hexagonal “honeycomb” architecture, which inspired a flexible and dynamic visual identity. This motif appears as a window, frame, and graphic element, uniting print, digital, and environmental touchpoints. The distinctive cropped logomark echoes the building’s facade and adapts to various naming conventions, helping MRC stand out in Melbourne’s cultural landscape. A bold, adaptive colour system, generated by a custom digital tool, reflects the diversity of artists and ensures accessibility and visual consistency across all assets. The tool allows the team to upload performer images, automatically generating accessible, vibrant palettes, streamlining promotional material creation. Typography was carefully selected and customised for clarity and a contemporary feel, while motion brings the brand to life through gestures like Focus, Discover, and Immersion, visually interpreting the experience of live music. The hexagonal motif is integrated into physical items such as drink coasters, pins, and print collateral, ensuring a cohesive brand presence. From its storytelling to its adaptive visual language, the identity channels the spirit of “Music for the daring” — uniting audiences through a shared sense of adventure, connection, discovery, and celebration of music within a space famed for its immersive acoustics and welcoming energy.
