  • MORE
  • Street + Garden was asked to develop a solution that interpreted the site’s former use by representing coal train geometry and typography throughout the site. Being a rail corridor the site is long and linear and the design of the furniture elements play on this by using long linear bench seats and tables throughout the site.

  • The designs and pre-cast concrete hob wall elements were combined to create a seamless solution that integrates the furniture elements with the surrounding landscape.

  • Market Street is set against the stunning display of heritage buildings of the main street of Newcastle and the adjacent Hunter River. This has created a new heart to the city that showcases all that Newcastle has to offer. The furniture elements developed for JMD Design and installed in the landscape create a unique solution that enhances the public space for all users.

  • The close collaboration with the client, understanding the end user's requirements, developing products that are unique to site, and providing a solution that creates an emotional connection are all key features that are demonstrated by this project. The full design process has been considered right from the materials and finishes selected, through to the manufacturer and construction company producing and installing the furniture, and beyond to include the end users of today and in generations to come. An integral part of the Street & Garden ethos is to reduce the environmental impact of our products during the design phase. All of our products are designed for longevity and repairability, and we seek responsible manufacturing practices which address waste reduction and recycling. For the community, a functional and beautiful suite of furniture adds both a sense of identity to a space and a creates an enjoyable outdoor environment. Providing these benefits to people creates a desire to interact with the outdoors, aiding in the health and happiness of everyone. With a well considered layout, new opportunities for personal interactions begin to form - places to meet people, places to learn and collaborate, places to exercise and have fun with friends, family and neighbours.
