LIFEHAWK is a high visibility LED hard hat safety light designed for construction, mining, rail and industrial workers operating around vehicles, machinery, blind spots and low light conditions. Developed for LifeHawk Co, it improves worker visibility, supports safer worksites, and helps teams stay seen without changing existing PPE workflows.

  • Construction and industrial sites depend heavily on high visibility clothing, yet workers can still disappear in blind spots, poor weather, night works, tunnels and busy machine zones. The brief was to create a simple, rugged, easy to adopt safety product that made workers more visible from multiple angles without adding complexity to their shift. The solution needed to fit standard hard hats, survive real worksite handling, provide long runtime, support signalling modes, remain affordable, and be manufacturable at scale. The biggest design challenge was balancing brightness, battery life, comfort, attachment security, simplicity and production cost in a compact wearable form.

  • COLETEK designed, prototyped and developed LIFEHAWK as a practical hard hat mounted safety beacon. The design integrates high intensity LED visibility, multiple colour and lighting modes, SOS signalling, USB C charging and long runtime into a compact unit that can attach to standard hard hats or headlamp straps. The development process moved from concept and physical prototyping through electronics, enclosure, usability and manufacturability refinement. Key decisions focused on keeping the product simple enough for immediate site adoption while still delivering strong visibility, reliable battery performance and a secure fit for demanding construction, mining, rail and industrial conditions.

  • LIFEHAWK has already achieved strong commercial validation, with 15,000 units sold in its first month on the market. Its societal impact is direct: making workers easier to see in high risk environments where blind spots, moving plant, night works and poor visibility can contribute to serious injury. The product supports safer construction, mining, rail and industrial worksites without requiring behavioural change or complex training. Environmentally, its rechargeable USB C design reduces reliance on disposable batteries and supports repeated use across long shifts. LIFEHAWK demonstrates how focused product design can turn a simple safety insight into a scalable worksite safety solution.

  • Key features include up to 800 metre visibility, long runtime, multiple lighting modes, emergency SOS, USB C charging, LED battery indicators, colour options for signalling or team identification, and compatibility with standard hard hats and headlamp straps. The product is designed to sit out of the worker’s way while improving visibility to machinery operators, vehicles and surrounding crews.A major design consideration was adoption. LIFEHAWK needed to feel like a natural addition to existing PPE, not another complicated device. The controls are simple, the attachment method is familiar, and the unit is small enough for everyday use while still being bright enough for demanding conditions. The product also addresses a clear worksite behaviour problem. PPE is only effective when it is worn consistently. By making LIFEHAWK practical, rechargeable, durable and easy to use, the design increases the chance that workers will keep it on through real shifts, including night works, tunnels, roadwork, rail corridors, remote sites and heavy equipment zones.
