  • Human spaceflight lifecycle (preflight, inflight & postflight) is a strenuous process that significantly impacts the human body, due to extreme environmental factors like microgravity, space radiation exposure and spacesuit bulkiness. There are limited datasets available on astronauts who train and the available data sets point to an injury database related to movable joints. The impact of space radiation on the human body is still being understood but the overall harm radiation causes to the human body is well known. There is a need to standardise the data collection of human performance in extreme conditions to design effective countermeasures for protection & safety.

  • Metakosmos is developing a suit platform called Kosmosuit® which is a combination of fabrics, electronics & intelligence generation. Our proprietary software application The Kernel360™ is a part of the wider platform that allows astronauts to train effectively and efficiently thereby monitoring their biomarkers and minimising injuries and health impact. The suit’s connected software enables biomarker capture that helps flight surgeons train astronauts effectively and prevent injuries. The tool can also be adapted for operations in extreme conditions across land, sea & air. Landmark moments include receiving government funding, Moon to Mars and NSW MVP Grants to build minimum viable products and prototypes.

  • The impact of this project spans the lifecycle of extreme environments exposure for individuals, in pre-flight, in-flight and post-flight. Focusing on space-based activities, this tool will serve as a logbook for astronauts, that records their biomarker performance, this profile enables more effective training, contributing to reduced injuries. The tool also reduces the need for multiple applications to be deployed during the lifecycle of extreme event exposure by saving infrastructure costs and improving data visibility. This will enable organisations to design effective countermeasures to adverse impacts on humans exposed to extreme environments.

  • The product Kosmosuit®Kernel360™, beta version, has unique capabilities that combine the emerging technologies: Biomarker Benchmarking - Specific to musculoskeletal systems of humans and their impact during extreme environment exposures. Computational Biology (digital human twin) - To capture anthropometric data of the suit user to ensure relevant prediction of biomechanics. Real-time performance intelligence - The Kernel360™ product platform is capable of generating real-time data on suit diagnostics, human performance & environments. Multiplanetary performance simulation - Using markerless motion tracking the tool will generate a predicted performance of the user in varying gravity conditions. The software is a NASA Class A Human Rated Software which has a modular open systems approach. It has an integration with features that come from NASA, Google and other Earth observation satellites.
