Koala Plus Mattress

Koala sought to design a sustainable mattress that could handle Australia’s extreme temperature and humidity variations, providing comfort throughout all seasons. The challenge involved ensuring the mattress could help maintain a cool body temperature — essential for quick sleep onset and deep sleep. Additionally, the design needed to address diverse sleeping preferences to enhance overall sleep quality and health.

The Koala Plus Mattress design focussed on adaptability to Australia’s climate and user comfort. Drawing on over 45,000 pages of research and insights from interviews with sleep experts and users, development included extensive testing of thermal effusivity, moisture wicking and airflow, ensuring superior performance of Koala’s CoolThread™ and Cooling Gel Kloudcell® materials. The design was validated by an independent German laboratory using technology to simulate human sleeping conditions and actual human sleep trials. This testing confirmed the mattress sleeps on average 13% cooler than leading online mattresses, ensuring it adapted seamlessly to different environments and enhanced sleep quality for users.

The Koala Plus Mattress fulfils the growing demand for advanced, eco-friendly sleep solutions. It uses sustainable materials such as ethically sourced organic cotton and recycled polyester, and the foam used is CertiPUR-US® certified, promoting better indoor air quality.
