The brief for the Hyundai STARIA called for a uniquely appealing exterior designed to stand out in a conservative segment, with quality and advanced technology within, along with the expected people mover qualities of ample space and extreme practicality. STARIA had to usher in leading-edge comfort and convenience, and class-first safety technologies, to set a new people mover benchmark. It needed to deliver more car-like ride and handling than is the norm in the class, which is commonly occupied by commercial-vehicles-derived offerings. And it needed to bring class-leading space and cut-above interior quality and appeal.

Hyundai STARIA nails the design brief by bringing an appealing futuristic look to people movers, with the tall body and lowered body floor also contributing to class-leading interior space. STARIA’s passenger car platform with multi-link rear suspension and AWD brings a conventional car driving experience to the people-mover segment. A strong, collision energy-dissipating structure, an extensive suite of SmartSense safety technologies including segment-firsts, and the brand’s pioneering front centre side airbag make STARIA extremely safe. STARIA provides a high-quality occupant experience with its leather upholstery, refinement-enhancing vibration insulation and absorption measures, classy 64-colour user-selectable mood lighting and Bose premium audio.

STARIA’s futuristic frontal design, single-curve silhouette, and simple surfacing make it a uniquely style-driven people mover, to give large families a newly appealing option, and to put adventurous design on the agenda in a typically utilitarian segment. The panoramic glasshouse brings a sense of openness in the highly configurable cabin, which offers more interior space in most directions than its competitors. STARIA’s passenger-car underpinnings bring a more car-like drive experience than that of the typical van-based offerings in the segment. Hyundai STARIA people-mover is available in three trim grades (STARIA, Elite and Highlander), with petrol and turbo-diesel engines paired with FWD or AWD and an in-house developed eight-speed automatic featuring convenient pushbutton Shift by Wire gear selection.
