HP Reverb VR Headset – Pro Edition

The HP design team was challenged to make virtual reality easy. The problem is that many head-worn displays are uncomfortable. PC-powered VR solutions are big, heavy, and often require a complex room-scale setup. The HP design team wanted to make a headset that used a high-quality display and cameras to mix reality from cameras with virtual images displayed in front of the wearer’s eyes. It had to be comfortable. It had to be light. It had to be easy to put on, and easy to setup.

The HP Reverb VR headset minimizes the bulk of previous Mixed Reality headsets, and integrates fabrics into an inviting, soft form. The front and rear portions use knit fabric to allow the design to feel more welcoming and familiar – the softer overall form complements this approach as well. The side and top headbands join at a rear circle, which has multiple uses, functionally and aesthetically. It can serve as a pony-tail egress, and it is an easy place to grab when putting on or taking off the headset. The controllers pair automatically with the headset, for an easy setup experience.

The HP Reverb VR headset is suited to our rapidly changing social needs. The fabric and surfaces are made for easy cleaning and can be wiped down with a common household disinfecting wipe. Virtual reality is increasingly used in social gaming, applications for education, enterprise employee training, and even medical treatment for pain relief. It is more important than ever to prevent the easy transmission of communicable disease, and Reverb is well-suited to all of these applications by being easy to disinfect.

The HP Reverb VR headset uses tracking cameras on the front face to make it easy to start using mixed reality. The earphones mounted the headband are adjustable for maximum comfort, while overall adjustment is done with Velcro straps on the sides and middle band that goes across the top of the head. The cable management helps further balance the weight of the components on the headset, allowing for maximum comfort during long mixed reality sessions.
