  • CHALLENGE
  • SOLUTION
  • IMPACT
  • MORE
  • HP Design was given an unusual challenge. Frequently, we're asked to make things thinner, lighter, with more space devoted to a large screen in a small package. For this design, all the rules changed. We started with a 17" size, and chose desktop-class performance parts. Building around those requirements, we questioned, how can we manage weight-savings, energy conservation, and responsibly choose materials that are good for the environment?

  • ENVY 17 is designed with recycled aluminum in the top cover and keyboard deck, helping to reduce production waste. It also uses postconsumer recycled plastic (PCR) including ocean-bound plastic in the speaker housing, bezel, palmrest inner frame, and keyboard keycaps. Using PCR and ocean-bound plastic prevents them from reaching the ocean and landfills and contributes to HP's commitment to increase recycled content in our products to 30 percent by 2025. HP innovated the ocean-bound plastic resin to support multiple color choices and then developed the end-to-end supply-chain model from bottle collectors in Haiti to plastic in injection molders in China.

  • The HP Envy contributes to the reputation HP is establishing for machines that are made with recycled content but are high performance with premium materials and finishes. We believe it's our responsibility to make computers that consider the environment, while meeting our user's expectations.

  • With a minimalist philosophy, we have refined the design of ENVY laptops. It shifts away from masculinity and appeals to all genders with soft, sculpted curves. It's thinner and lighter to give you a more portable experience. It also showcases an All-In-One keyboard, another design highlight that gives fast access to hotkeys and keyboard shortcuts, so creators can design faster and more efficiently. The backlit keys with ambient light sensors also allow you to type in low-light settings. An immersive viewing experience can be attributed to the borderless bezel and an 89% screen to body ratio. Plus, a larger, more modern precision touchpad means easier navigation and it supports multi-touch gestures.
