  • In the last decade, ceiling fan technology has become extremely energy efficient, yet the manufacturing process has remained unchanged. Fanco recognised a need to revolutionise this aspect. Traditional fans often utilise ABS, steel, and undergo carbon-intensive processes like electroplating and powder coating. Fanco faced the challenge of adopting sustainable materials that still ensure durability, reliability, and affordability for mass production. The solution markedly shifts manufacturing practices, significantly reducing environmental impacts while maintaining the fan’s high performance and design appeal. The Gaia is the first ceiling fan in the Australian market which incorporates a holistic sustainable approach from inception.

  • Fanco embarked on a project to enhance their ceiling fan manufacturing’s environmental and health impacts. Beginning with a thorough assessment by engineering consultants, they explored sustainable materials and analysed the global market, finding no equivalent sustainable product development. Despite the initial challenges, Fanco diligently explored alternatives. Fanco opted for a design utilising bio-based plastic, with 25% of its content from bio-based carbon, significantly reducing fossil fuel use. The fans feature sustainably sourced timber blades with only a natural finish to minimise environmental impact. Committed to further sustainability, Fanco switched to 100% recyclable packaging, eliminating Styrofoam throughout their product range.

  • By prioritising sustainability, the Gaia sets a new standard in the ceiling fan industry, being an Australian first and possibly a world first. Fanco’s use of environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing processes aims to broaden access to sustainable options for Australian households. The fan features a sleek, modern design that blends seamlessly into various home environments, operates ultra-quietly for enhanced comfort, and is engineered for easy installation and minimal maintenance. The use of innovative materials previously unexplored in ceiling fans not only pioneers’ advancements in eco-friendly design but also serves as a model for future industry practices.

  • The Gaia ceiling fan distinguishes itself through design elements that enhance the user experience and sustainability. Available in 48” and 54” sizes, the fan is designed to cater to different spatial needs, ensuring efficient air circulation and optimal comfort. It features an ultra-efficient DC motor operating on a low energy range: just 3 watts on the lowest setting and up to 30 watts at maximum speed, providing substantial cooling with a powerful airflow rate of 17,602 m3/h. Models offer user-friendly lighting options, with or without an energy-efficient LED panel that users can replace themselves, eliminating the need for professional installation and reducing maintenance costs. Constructed with minimally processed blades and bio-plastics, the fan’s materials avoid unnecessary environmental strain from coatings and paints. Priced between $450 and $650 AUD, the Gaia fan merges quality with affordability. It includes an advanced remote control with six-speed settings and a winter function for year-round comfort. This combination of thoughtful design and energy efficiency makes the Gaia fan a standout product, appealing to eco-conscious consumers and promoting environmental sustainability.
