Forever Design – The EIGHT bag

The design brief challenges how to utilise modern leather bag craft making skills to produce a timeless design with a quality that will last. understated elements that will last the text of time and embrace the idea of slow fashion. How can the bag be used for a long time without looking old & aged. The design needs to provide flexible and practical options to wear in different ways depending on the contents (weight) of the bag to increase comfort and agileness. Change the shape of the bag to suit different styling needs. Developing the material and colours that are seasonless.

The make of the design eliminates any unnecessary elements on the bag to ensure the design aesthetics stays on brand and reduce weight added to the bag that is solely for cosmetic purpose. Intentionally designed to reduce any visible hardware. Materials, trims and bonding materials are tried and tested to sustain varies weathers. Paper pattern of the design has been developed for the bag to be effortlessly formed into different shapes (tote, shopper and bucket). Shoulder strap construction are designed to be adjusted from under-shoulder to crossbody length in 1 second without having the need to fiddle with any hardware.

We wear a bag all the time for different purposes and we call it the "Carryology". The design allows women to have a bag that will fit into their modern lives seamlessly by being able to carry a lightweight, high quality made, luxury and fashionable bag that can be adjusted to fit their preferred comfort level and styles to match from working, evening and casual outfits. The no fuss strap adjustment is another highlight of this design. From research, bag users hardly ever adjust the shoulder strap length as they requires effort and challenging for female users with long manicure.

Additional features of the design includes a 3 layer inbuilt card pocket as we understand many users no longer have the need to carry a wallet with the raise of digital payment methods. The internal of the bag also boats a pocket designed for long and thin items such as lipsticks and pens. From our target group research, these are the 2 most commonly carried items and are able to eliminate the use of cosmetic bags. This internal pocket can also be used to store keys to avoid keys scratching on other belongings within the bag. A key hook is designed and allocated right above the pocket opening for the keys to be easily placed inside and easy to find.
