  • To break the cycle of buying new beds for small style changes or upholstery issues. Typically, upholstered beds can be difficult to maintain with fabric prone to stains or spills. They can often feel permanent, as upholstery cannot change styles or colours easily. Lastly, most are built as permanent fixtures, which doesn’t suit modern lifestyles where people move homes more frequently. Therefore, Eva set out to design a structurally sound upholstered bed with tool-free assembly, combined with easy-to-remove and easy-to-care-for upholstery. Key challenges were meeting strict costs to deliver on competitive pricing, whilst innovating on materials.

  • In two years, the team underwent three complete redesigns to create a tool-free, structurally sound, adaptable upholstered bed frame. Through rigorous testing and sampling of materials, a machine-washable fabric cover system was developed to allow users to remove upholstery through simple hook and loop fasteners. Thus, enabling a whole new materiality from a simple change of covers. The base was also developed to allow for future headboard interchangeability, further strengthening product longevity. Core roadblocks were maintaining engineering integrity using only hand screws for a no-tool assembly and disassembly experience; and integrating with cross-product add-ons such as the Kino Storage Drawer.

  • Commercially, the Delve Bed shifts customers from replacing whole beds to simply purchasing new upholstery covers. This opens up the market by making upholstered beds a practical option for people who previously avoided them. Environmentally, it reduces frequent replacements as bulky furniture can be kept out of landfill and extends the product's lifespan. CNC technology ensures waste-minimising manufacturing, and the integration of cross-product development preserves production efficiency. Societally, Australia exhibits a high rate of residential mobility compared to global standards. This suggests products like Delve are even more important in catering to the needs of a population that relocates frequently.

  • The Delve Bed Frame elevates the bedroom with its innovative upholstered features. The machine-washable fabric covers are secured firmly with velcro to the frame for easy removal and replacement. Its design also protects the velcro during washing, extending the lifespan of the covers. Covers are interchangeable which offers aesthetic flexibility for diverse customer preferences. The headboard is inspired by Eva's Everyday Sofa, to create a sofa-like comfort for sitting in bed, and the slat system is borrowed from the Eva Timber Bed Frame which holds the highest structural integrity. The frame's unique tool-free assembly allows for effortless setup and disassembly, making moving day significantly less stressful. Practical storage solutions set the Delve Frame apart with four vertically sliding doors that minimise the bed's footprint when open. This enables full access to the under bed space for large items. This can be further enhanced with optional add-ons like the Kino Storage Drawer for greater organisation. The bracket system not only simplifies assembly but is engineered for compatibility with future accessories and headboard designs. This forward-thinking design ensures the Delve Bed Frame can adapt to evolving needs while maintaining its core functionality and aesthetic appeal. A true marriage of form and function.
