Delter Coffee Press

With Delter Coffee Press we wanted to solve one of the biggest coffee brewing problems: over-extraction caused from agitation. Uncontrolled agitation results in bitter coffee and inconsistent results. In order to solve this we set out to design a way to keep the brew water separated from the coffee grounds, until the moment of extraction.

We developed a "Jet Seal". This is a Silicone part with 19 conical opens finely cross-cut with a micro millimetre blade. The openings are effectively closed as the Silicone self heals where it is sliced. Then only under pressure are the cones forced to open and allow water to pass through. The "Jet Seal" exceeded our expectations, allowing good free flow extraction as the plunger is pressed through but stopping almost any drip with water sitting above it.

It's exciting to launch a break through product for the coffee industry. Previously almost every manual coffee brewer has used a drip or immersion process which instantly exposes the coffee to extraction without control. Our solution is a radically different product and brew process to any other device on the market. The Injection Brewing method offers improved control for better clarity and control when compared to all other immersion style brewing (Aeropress, French Press etc) products.

A nice feature is that the Plunger used to press the brew water through the Jet Seal starts in the fully down position. It is then simply raised to allow water through until the desired coffee is extracted. Re-dosing is easy as water is poured through the top opening of the plunger (it does not need to be removed from the Main Chamber). This means it's possible to pour double batches, with up to 450ml possible in a single brew. Delter Coffee Press is very easy to clean. The coffee chamber and cap require a quick rinse under the tap after grounds have been ejected. The product is highly portable weighing less than 250g. Ideal for camping, air travel or it fits in neatly right at home.
