bouncee Reusable Insulated Crates

bouncee solves three major challenges: 1.Existing insulated reusable crates are inefficient. The most common design is a rigid format that cannot be stored efficiently. With a system of 150,000+ crates delivering groceries, it is very expensive to move and store them. The obvious answer is to taper and nest; however, insulated crates have thick walls, and this significantly compromises the internal packing space. 2.Refrigerated vehicles are expensive, inflexible, and insulated packaging is still often required to maintain cold chain. 3.Single-use is wasteful. In 2020, a million tonnes of plastics and paper went to landfill in Victoria alone.

Our journey started when an international grocer wanted a reusable version of a single-use product we had developed previously. We quickly adapted our process to make 500 prototypes, which they tested in their harshest delivery network in the UAE. Their feedback is ultimately what inspired us to develop the bouncee collapsible insulated crate, which now delivers the lowest total lifecycle cost in the industry. Made from a unique composite of expanded polypropylene for insulation and rigid polypropylene for the critical hinging areas, bouncee collapses to 50% of its assembled size without compromising internal packing space, strength, or temperature control performance.

The bouncee collapsible insulated crate is built on a modular format, which allows damaged panels to be removed and replaced. This effectively repairs the crate and saves the financial and environmental investment left in the remaining panels. The crate’s insulated body is expanded polypropylene—the same material used in modern car bumper bars. This resource-efficient (>93% air) and recyclable material offers a unique combination of strength, lightness, and flexibility. As a result, the crates weigh less than 2kg, are unexpectedly tough, and feature integrated ergonomic handles for easy lifting. Another key feature of the crate is its unique surface texture, which offers improved aesthetics, a tactile feel, improved water resistance and enhanced washability. bouncee is also more than a highly efficient crate, it is a holistic reusable system for short-transit perishable deliveries. It includes thermal dividers, reusable ice packs, phase change materials for specific temperature requirements, asset tracking labels and other accessories, which can be configured in endless formats to meet the needs of different sectors. The crates have slots and other features that seamlessly integrate with the accessories. This allows businesses to separate perishable types into different temperature zones and deliver a safe and organized experience to their customers.
