  • CHALLENGE
  • SOLUTION
  • IMPACT
  • Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive 100G opened new frontiers for large-scale immersive live productions, while revealing a critical infrastructure challenge: how to switch, route and manage stereoscopic, ultra-high-resolution signals in real time. Traditional broadcast switchers, leveraging traditional SDI connections, are designed only for 2D sources and are not equipped for synchronised immersive camera feeds, extreme bandwidth demands or the spatial continuity required for live immersive experiences. The challenge was to design a purpose-built switcher for this emerging production model, enabling immersive live workflows while remaining familiar to operators, scalable for large productions and integrated within Blackmagic Design’s wider IP broadcast ecosystem.

  • Blackmagic ATEM Solaris I64 is a dedicated immersive live production switcher, supporting up to 32 immersive camera feeds via 64 redundant inputs, with two camera decoders per input, along with redundant control ports and power supplies. It expands Blackmagic’s ATEM switching philosophy into immersive media, allowing operators to manage complex stereoscopic sources through a professional live production workflow.Designed for 100G IP-based environments, Solaris I64 connects naturally with products such as URSA Cine Immersive 100G, Fairlight Live, HyperDeck ISO Recorder 100G and Blackmagic’s broader SMPTE 2110 infrastructure.

  • ATEM Solaris I64 establishes 3D and immersive live broadcasting as a practical and accessible production category. By bringing immersive switching into the ATEM ecosystem, Blackmagic Design expands access beyond specialist facilities to broadcasters, educators, live event producers and creative studios. The system also strengthens adoption across Blackmagic’s wider ecosystem, including URSA Cine Immersive 100G, Fairlight Live and DaVinci Resolve. Its SMPTE 2110 IP architecture and use of high-bandwidth optical fibre reduce copper cabling, raw material use, infrastructure complexity and installation overheads, supporting more resource-efficient and sustainable broadcast production workflows.
