  • Competitors offering similar lights, forcing everyone into very similar designs, achieving good performance and unique appearance is challenging. Create a light that is easily adaptable to changing driving conditions. Drivers prefer different beam profiles depending on the roads they are driving on. Many brands use clip on filters to change beam profile from a spot to flood profile. Previously the driver had to exit the vehicle to attach filters to the light to produce different lighting beams when needed. Design product that’s functionally and aesthetically adaptable to a range of vehicles and trucks, whilst being built for extreme durability requirements.

  • Going back to first principles of optics design, simulations on adaptable optics concept vs fixed optics. New design engineered to achieve different profiles in one. The optics make it possible to switch modes from in the car to change the lighting beam profile. New style reflector provides unique function and different shaped optics allowed the team to explore new product aesthetics. Multiple mounting options include a category first universal mount flange on the rear of the housing. This allows for brackets and accessories to be attached for adaptability. Designed and tested for a range of applications beyond the extreme.

  • The benefits of being able to switch modes leads to many commercial, environmental, and societal benefits. Reduced light pollution in highly populated areas means safety for the driver and oncoming traffic. Ability to change beam profile also represents an ethical advantage to the wellbeing of wildlife. The driver can choose the mode for areas where animals are commonly found, the driver can quickly adapt in order to illuminate the road allowing for better visibility which reduces the risk of harming animals with the vehicle. The beam profiles with reduced light intensity and reduced colour temperature assist in reducing eye fatigue.

  • During the design process of the product, the engineering team worked closely with the marketing team to ensure key features aligned with consumer buyer personas. From the needs of a long-haul truck driver who relies on high quality performance to carry out jobs, to those at both ends of the four-wheel driving spectrum both experienced and new, the performance and aesthetics of the product needed to cross over all consumer needs and wants. As a result of this need for a blend of work and play functionality, design cues and inspiration were taken from various military product styling. Military products are typically built to last across rugged environments and possess sleek look and feel. These features can be seen in the product and provide the end user with not only functional simplicity, but eye-catching talking point with family and friends.
