  • Shared environments often suffer from poor acoustics and background noise, making it difficult for people to clearly access speech and audio. Traditional assistive listening systems can be expensive to install, difficult to scale, and restricted to fixed physical locations. Many also rely on venue-managed hardware, creating logistical barriers for both operators and users. Direct audio benefits people of all hearing abilities, including people listening in a second language, experiencing listening fatigue, or navigating neurodivergence. The challenge was to create a hardware solution that integrates into existing AV systems while enabling more flexible, discreet, and scalable shared listening experiences.

  • The BT-03 is a compact, battery-free device that connects directly to sound systems via HDMI ARC, Optical, or AUX inputs. Using Auracast™ technology, it broadcasts low-latency audio to an unlimited number of headphones, earbuds, hearing aids, and receivers within a 50-metre range. Auracast removes the need for traditional one-to-one Bluetooth pairing, allowing compatible devices within range to seamlessly connect to the broadcast.Integrated bypass outputs allow audio to continue playing through house speakers while simultaneously broadcasting for personal listening. With latency under 40 milliseconds, the design supports highly synchronised audio for real-time speech and video environments.

  • The BT-03 establishes a new standard for shared listening across education, hospitality, and aged care. It enables independent and discreet listening for people of all hearing abilities, including those who benefit from additional listening support, helping reduce the stigma often associated with traditional assistive listening infrastructure. The device has been implemented across 65 University of Queensland lecture theatres, supporting clearer access to lecture content and reducing listening fatigue. In hospitality and community settings, users can access direct audio streams despite environmental noise. At AU$399, it offers a cost-effective and scalable alternative to traditional assistive listening infrastructure
