Each year, Good Design Australia invites an esteemed community of design luminaries from across Australia and around the globe to embark on the Australian Good Design Awards Judging journey. The Jury engages in debates, thoughtful discussions and occasional disputes, all in pursuit of recognising and celebrating the best in design and innovation from around the world.
We are proud to announce the design, architecture and engineering experts coming together as part of the 2024 Jury. We look forward to witnessing their passion and vibrant exchange of ideas this year as they enrich the judging process with diverse perspectives and cultural insights.
From Application to Acceptance Speech…
- Following the submission period, each Jury member individually and meticulously analyses, evaluates and scores each project within their designated category.
- Upon completion of the individual evaluation and scoring phase, Jurors convene with other Jurors in their category. They collectively review the scores, aiming for consensus while addressing any discrepancies. The Category Jurors emerge with recommendations that they present to the entire Good Design Awards Jury in a two-day Final Round Evaluation Event.
- The Final Round Evaluation Event brings together a selection of the Jury from all corners of the industry to evaluate, debate, recognise and award the best of the best. This is where each Award winner is confirmed and the coveted Good Design Award of the Year is decided.
A star-studded Jury
The 2024 Jury spotlights a global panel of design professionals from some of the world’s most renowned studios, organisations and institutes.
Among them is Dr. Thomas Garvey, President of the World Design Organization. Thomas is renowned for his contributions to global design standards and practices, leading international teams in numerous professional design projects and research programs throughout his career.
Also serving on the Jury is Sharon Gauci, Executive Design Director at General Motors. With her leadership, Sharon continues to push the boundaries of Automotive Design, integrating cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices into vehicle aesthetics and functionality.

Dr. Carolyn Briggs AM, N’Arwee’t Professor and Elder in Research in RMIT’s College of Design and Social Context, will be a Jury member for the Design Research Category. As an award-winning activator and advocate for conscious design practices, Dr. Briggs brings over 40 years of experience surrounding the development, support and promotion of First Nations’ initiatives and artistry to the table.
Iris Pan of Amazon also joins this year’s Jury, bringing her extensive experience in user experience design and strategic innovation. Her work at Amazon has helped shape some of the most user-centric services and products in the digital space today.
Also confirmed is Catriona Burgess, Head of Frost* Place under the Frost*collective banner. She has evolved the brands and identities of hundreds of organisations, from prominent cultural institutions such as the Sydney Opera House, to flagship organisations like John Holland and Qantas.
These innovators share judging duties with more than 80 other design figureheads that each bring their skills and experience to the judging process.
The 2024 Judging will be conducted in three stages combining online and in-person sessions, with winners announced at the 2024 Good Design Awards Ceremony. This prestigious event promises to embody the true meaning of The Design Effect and showcase the very best in design from around the world, celebrating innovation, sustainability and excellence in design.
