Looksee

Children with alternating divergent squints require daily eye exercises to strengthen vision, most commonly done by wearing an eye patch. Parents struggle to maintain consistent routines due to the treatment’s repetitive nature and lack of child engagement. Our challenge was to create a solution that could reimagine this traditional treatment into something enjoyable, effective, and easy to use at home. It needed to support common eye-strengthening exercises while being engaging for children and allowing for gentle guidance from a parent/guardian.

Looksee reimagines eye-strengthening and depth-training eye exercises by using gamified tools. Red/blue anaglyph glasses create an alternative to eye patch time, revealing hidden images on the illustrated prompt cards that engage one eye at a time. These prompts can inspire children to create visual stories with the patterned blocks, helping build depth perception and spatial awareness. Each component supports a core eye-strengthening exercise while working together in a seamless, playful system. Looksee empowers parents with a practical tool and gives children control over their treatment, turning daily exercises into moments of curiosity, creativity, and shared progress.

Looksee aims to make eyecare more accessible and engaging for young children. Traditional treatments can feel isolating or frustrating, especially for 4–6-year-olds, but Looksee invites them into a world of colour, stories, and creativity. It’s not a replacement for professional care but a playful companion supporting home treatment. Its low-tech, tactile design is easy for families to use and helps turn treatment into a shared, imaginative experience. Designed for daily use and easy storage, Looksee is available through orthoptists, online stores, and more - blending play to support children with conditions like alternating divergent squint.

A walkthrough video is included to help parents and children quickly understand how each component works, making the experience easy to start and encouraging confident use at home. Our characters are designed to reflect Looksee’s core brand values: curiosity, creativity, imagination, and storytelling. These characters appear across our box design, animations, and digital extensions, becoming companions for children to explore and build their own stories alongside. Our colour palette is carefully chosen to be both playful and exciting, forming a recognisable brand identity that’s engaging for young children. The red/blue glasses are sized for small faces, being lightweight and comfortable to wear. All components, including the cards, glasses, and patterned blocks, fit neatly into a compact box for everyday use and easy storage. This portable design ensures Looksee is convenient for home routines or travel, allowing for your child’s eye-strengthening exercises to remain consistent and stress-free.
