Cochlear Nucleus 7 Sound Processor

For seamless integration with a user’s lifestyle, we were tasked with designing a system that can be monitored and adjusted without the need for additional remotes, accessories or wires. The key challenge therein was to create a solution that offers advanced connectivity and control options in a smaller, lighter processing unit that also offers longer battery life while meeting cybersecurity requirements. A bimodal hearing solution was also required for users with a cochlear implant in one ear and a hearing aid in the other.

The processor is 25% smaller, 24% lighter using a new integrated circuit that is 5 times smaller, with lower power consumption giving up to 50% more battery life. A new radio chip and implementation of BLE stack enables compatibility with Made for iPhone specifications allowing direct audio-streaming from Apple devices. e.g. phone calls, entertainment. Fitting software enables linking a compatible hearing aid and the processor for bimodal users to enjoy direct audio-streaming. UX design process generated an intuitive mobile application enabling monitor and adjustment of the processor. Architecturally designed interaction of firmware, app and cloud enabled a robust cybersecurity solution.

The Cochlear™ Nucleus® 7 Sound Processor and Nucleus Smart App opens up a new world of accessibility and unprecedented secure wireless connectivity, offering cochlear implant recipients greater flexibility than ever before to personalise and manage their hearing experience. Made for iPhone compatibility enables users to directly stream calls and entertainment from compatible Apple devices. For the first time, with the Nucleus Smart App users can control and adjust settings, view personalised hearing information and even locate a lost processor. Finally, as the world’s smallest and lightest cochlear implant sound processor, Nucleus 7 combines comfort and wearability with proven hearing performance.

**Personalised hearing insights** For the first time, cochlear implant recipients have access to their personalised hearing data through the Hearing Tracker. They can review data such as number of coil offs and ‘time in speech’, giving them greater involvement in their hearing journey. **Easily find a lost sound processor** The find my processor feature can easily help users locate a lost sound processor. This is especially valuable for parents, providing confidence and peace of mind. **Advanced hearing performance** Building on our industry-leading sound processing technology, the Nucleus 7 Sound Processor features SmartSound® iQ with SCAN which automatically adjusts to help users hear more clearly in any environment. **A wide range of retention options** Suitable for children and active adults, the Nucleus 7 Sound Processor comes with a wide range of wearing options to ensure that a processor stays safe and secure during physical activities or sports. **Be active with confidence** The Nucleus 7 Sound Processor is IP57 rated to cope with almost any environmental challenge. For additional protection, the Aqua+ accessory provides an IP68 rating for swimming and other water-based activities.
