As the new State Librarian, Dr Caroline Butler-Bowdon oversees the next chapter of the State Library of New South Wales.
Previously Caroline was the Executive Director in the Cities and Active Transport Division at Transport for NSW where she led a team of strategists, policy-makers, place-managers, project managers, planners and creative programmers to deliver a program of investment in NSW addressing the wellbeing, walkability and amenity and activation in our streets, civic places in our suburbs and cities.
Between 2019-2022 she led the NSW Premier’s Priority, Greener Public Spaces, a major policy and program initiative to improve walkable access to public space across NSW, and a $600 million program of record investment, including the NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program, Your High Street and Streets as Shared Spaces. Spanning 20 years, her career has been dedicated to leadership that connects citizens and visitors to special places, culture and heritage through a broad range of citywide public engagement programs, including festivals, exhibitions and books. She also serves on a range of juries, committees and boards to promote the power of place, community, heritage and public space in Australia.
