Lester Miller

Principal
Foundry Intellectual Property

With a focus on mechanical engineering and software inventions, Lester Miller has built a strong patent practice advising on the protection of new products and systems, while also advising on the protection of their visual aspects.

Lester’s technical expertise spans medical devices, underwater turbines, ntech (user experience, big data and mobile transactions systems), unmanned aerial vehicles, surfing and fashion. He also advises start-ups – for example, in the emerging online-to-online shopping space and dynamically-updating keyboards.

In the early years of his career, Lester held engineering, design and leadership roles with BHP Steel, B&D and Downer EDI Rail. The experience he gained during this period included advising on technology licensing, overseeing the design and manufacture of rolling stock, designing steel-making equipment, and testing and modelling the dynamic performance of trains in computer-simulated environments.

Lester was awarded an engineering scholarship by the University of Technology Sydney’s School of Engineering.

Prior to joining Foundry Intellectual Property, Lester accumulated 15 years’ experience working as a Trainee, then Patent Attorney and Senior Associate, with two large Australian IP firms.

Lester is committed to giving back to his profession through serving as a juror of the Good Design Awards, and lecturing at the Sydney Design Centre and University of New South Wales.
