The Retrograde IR Platform is an over-patient work-surface designed to assist clinicians with Neurovascular, Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures. Performed endovascularly, targeted treatments are delivered via catheters navigated through blood vessels using image guidance. Treatments include stroke treatments, aneurysm repair, coronary angioplasty, heart-valve replacement, and chemoembolization of liver cancers.

  • The design brief was to develop a product that would improve workspace management during femoral access procedures. Gaining access and stent deployment can often be uncomfortable for consciously sedated patients, increasing the risk of sudden patient movement which can interfere with equipment. The Retrograde IR Platform provides a stable work surface for resting equipment. The design must; - Provide a stable work surface for procedural equipment. - Improve workspace management and procedural flow. - Be height and length adaptable for patient and procedural requirements. - Be compatible with commercially available imaging tables/existing lab equipment.

  • The Retrograde IR Platform offers a stable, radiolucent, height and length appropriate solution for femoral access procedures. The carbon fibre composite platform surface allows equipment to be suspended above the patient, improving workspace management and procedural flow. Four height-adjustable leg assemblies connect the platform to two boards that are placed underneath the imaging table, ensuring compatibility with most imaging systems on the market and adaptability to patient and procedural requirements. An optional extension can be attached to the end of the platform to provide additional length for longer wire procedures.

  • The Retrograde IR Platform has proven to be a necessary solution within the Interventional Radiology space, gaining global interest by a range of clinicians and distributors alike. Significant sales and global awareness have established that Adept Medical is at the forefront of patient positioning solutions. The Retrograde IR Platform is included in product catalogues of major healthcare imaging supplies, including Philips and Siemens Healthineers.

  • Material selection has been carefully considered to ensure a lightweight, durable and chemical resistant product. The platform surface and lower boards are crafted from carbon-fibre composite, providing a high strength to weight ratio, facilitating ease of placement for clinicians and ensuring durability. High-performance engineering plastics were used for the leg assemblies and locking clips. It was important for the design solution to be suitable for a variety of patient and procedural requirements. The platform height can be adjusted by simply adapting the leg height, allowing the feathered edge of the Retrograde IR Platform to be tuned to the femoral access site. Once at the desired height, the leg assemblies can be twisted and locked for the remainder of the procedure. The optional extension allows for two length options, suitable for both short wire and longer wire neuro procedures. This can be simply attached to the end of the platform and locked into place with locking clips. Optional leg extensions have been designed for compatibility with larger patients. These twist and lock onto the existing leg assemblies, if required, and provide an additional 10 cm of height. Adjustable moving parts have been manufactured in blue for ease of identification.
