OPSInsight™ is a cloud-based, interactive pre-operative planning platform for primary total hip replacement (THR). Unique three-dimensional biomechanical analysis enables surgeons to visualise patient-specific functional movement throughout range of motion, and to optimise and select the best implant position for the best outcome for the patient.

  • THR is one of the most successful elective surgeries available. Despite this, research has concluded over 50% of revisions of THRs are avoidable and there are still dissatisfied patients. Additionally, patients are younger and more active, requiring their hip replacements to last longer and meet heightened expectations. Better pre-operative planning may help reduce the avoidable revision burden and improve patient satisfaction. However, currently available options are uninuitive and/or don't provide all the required information. The question we asked ourselves was: what is better pre-operative planning? How can we design a cutting-edge tool for surgeons to optimise their patient's outcomes?

  • OPSInsight™ was built upon the foundations of Corin's Optimised Position System (OPS), PDF preoperative planning reports. Taking the fundamental concepts of the existing OPS PDFs and a design scaffold with three pillars: interactivity, intuitiveness, and cloud-based, a design team of six orthopaedic surgeons, software developers, biomedical engineers, regulatory personnel and industry experts realised a solution to the design challenge proposed - the design and development of a first-of-its-kind and industry gold-standard preoperative planning platform using 3D patient-specific models to predict and visualise adverse functional outcomes, enabling optimisation for patients to get the most out of their hip replacement and maximise survivorship.

  • OPSInsight™ empowers surgeons to implement cutting-edge orthopaedic research into their practice, optimising for a patient’s best possible outcome, improving quality of life - potentially reducing revision burden and cost to patient, surgeon and healthcare system. Corin previously offered static, unintuitive preoperative planning. Investing in innovation to be interactive, cloud-based and intuitive improves accessibility to surgeons, increasing marketshare. The depth of information is superior to the industry standard, increasing loyalty. Digital planning eliminates printing reports and plastic templating sheets. Preoperative sizing predictions reduce courier and sterilisation burden, and potentially manufacturing redundancy. Software updates are released automatically without needing service engineers to travel.

  • OPSInsight™ guides the surgeon through pre-operative planning, categorising the information into “Dynamic”, “Cup” and “Stem” planning. The Dynamic planning provides innovative functional analysis of the patient’s bone models moving through range of motion with the planned implants in position. The Cup and Stem planning pages display computed tomography slices, enabling adjustments to the implant position with intuitive widgets. Engineers perform novel dynamic analysis using pre-operative inputs to optimise stability and range of motion, providing the surgeon an initial optimised plan to adjust as per their clinical judgement. A rotatable model simulates the post-operative radiological outcome, contextualising the plan in a familiar visual format for the surgeon. OPSInsight features radiodensity analysis to optimise implant type and size for every patient, with a suite of implant options available via dropdown menus. A selection of key anatomical and biomechanical measurements has been positioned at the top of interface, to support efficient review and planning. These measurements recalculate in realtime to reflect any changes. Succinct alerts and clever use of red text highlight to the surgeon when measurements are outside of clinical norm. Additional advanced measurements are available in a dropdown, for the keen surgeon to review without disrupting workflow or comprising streamlined UX.
