Miles Streetscape – Furniture Suite

A key consideration of the brief was to make subtle reference to the Bottle Tree which is an integral element of the area’s identity. To achieve this, the steel frames of each product were designed to reflect the bulbous shape of the plant and finished with an earthy bronze powder coat to complement the Spotted Gum timber tops.

Furthering the organic nature of the design, each piece of hardwood was CNC machined with a curve that repeats across the length of the furniture. The opportunity to combine hardwearing, durable materials with a soft and delicate aesthetic was applied to the entirety of the custom furniture suite. The end result is a range of products that add visual interest to a beautifully designed area and will continue to do so for years to come.

The incorporation of site-specific furniture into the redevelopment of Miles' CBD played a key role in creating connection within the community.

Despite it's organic, three dimensional nature, each member of the furniture suite has been designed to be efficiently laser cut from a minimal footprint. This minimises material consumption, while maximising the production scalability. Once cut, the parts are strategically folded into shapes that not only create structural rigidity, but abstractly mimic the bottle trees found throughout the surrounding environment.
