Infasecure Adapt More Infant Carrier

75% of Child Restraints are incorrectly installed in a motor vehicle. Rearward facing restraints are installed incorrectly, due to the mandatory requirement for the use of the top tether. The risk of incorrect installation in serious cases can cause harm or death. The Top tether is required to secure the restraint into the vehicle and provide manageable ride down during the event of a crash. The project was to design an Infant Carrier that enabled the restraint to be installed with a top tether strap whilst avoiding the necessity to adjust the tether each time an infant was installed.

The top tether is usually attached to the infant carrier which requires the attachment and removal each time it’s used. Through years of engineering, we developed an application where the top tether is attached to the carrier base whereby the infant carrier can be removed without touching the top tether strap. Ensuring the ease of use for the consumer, in turn removing misuse of the safety features.

Throughout a three-year design and development process we challenged the conventional thought process that an infant carrier can only incorporate the top tether strap around the carrier in an attempt to comply with the Australian Standard AS/NZS1754. In developing our product, we have elevated the safety standard of rearward facing Infant Carriers in Australia. Creating Australia’s first and only Patented Innovative Base Installation.
