  • The design brief for the Hyundai IONIQ 5 called for a futuristic family vehicle cleverly packaged around an advanced EV powertrain to provide an exceptionally spacious and versatile interior. IONIQ 5 had to advance the EV state of the art, by delivering an extended range, quicker recharging capability, and a progressive yet intuitive driving experience. The design had to signal that IONIQ 5 is a high-tech EV, as well as incorporating aerodynamic elements that complement the efficiency of the powertrain. IONIQ 5 also had to advance the user experience through leading edge driver assistance and safety, convenience and comfort technologies.

  • IONIQ 5 hits the brief with a futuristic SUV reinterpretation of Hyundai's 1974 Turin Show Pony fastback, the precursor to its first ever production vehicle. The compact EV powertrain makes possible a roomy, family-oriented interior with sliding rear seats, slim seats, and a sliding console that maximise flexibility. Zero-emission IONIQ 5 brings ultra-rapid charging, 80% in 18min (100km range in 5mins), with a battery range around of 500km. An intuitive driving experience in IONIQ 5 delivers the smooth, quiet and responsive benefits of an EV. IONIQ 5 advances the UX with an array of SmartSense driver assistance technologies.

  • Social: Advancements such as IONIQ 5's capability for an ultra-rapid 80% charge in 18min and 480km range illustrate Hyundai's leadership in EV-technology, as part of its long-term focus on creating a sustainable future for all Australians. Commercial: IONIQ 5 gives families advanced EV technology and extensive safety, comfort and convenience technology in a futuristic, spacious and versatile vehicle. IONIQ 5 will contribute to driving the update and development of EVs and the associated infrastructure. Environmental: Zero-emission IONIQ 5's environmental impact is minimised through efficient EV technology, and through Hyundai's commitment to developing a sustainable EV battery reuse and recycling ecosystem.

  • The Hyundai IONIQ 5 medium SUV is available as a single-motor 2WD EV or a twin-motor AWD EV, in standard and long-range variants, with between 125kW/350Nm and 170kW/605Nm. A new, EV-exclusive E-GMP platform with low centre-of-gravity underfloor batteries , ensures IONIQ 5 provides exceptional comfort, stability and handling. A series of aerodynamic design elements see IONIQ 5 achieve a co-efficient of drag of 0.288, which is slipperier than the Jaguar I-Pace. The IONIQ 5's high-strength monocoque body provides excellent collision protection. A seven airbag system in IONIQ 5 includes front, side and curtain airbags, and Hyundai's pioneering front centre side airbag. A Virtual Engine Sound System (VESS) provides an audible external indication that IONIQ 5 is driving nearby, to improve safety when driving near pedestrians. The IONIQ 5 features an extensive standard SmartSense safety suite of advanced driver assistance technologies, and has been built to achieve a maximum safety rating. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 uses eco-friendly materials extensively in its manufacture. These include paperette, eco-process leather, bio-paint, and bio-PET fabrics. The metals in IONIQ 5 are recyclable, which make up more than 70% of the vehicle by weight. In addition, many plastic components in IONIQ 5 are designed for recyclability.
