Honeywell brings the future of plant control rooms to life with the Experion Orion Console. The Experion® Orion Console is an advanced display technology that combines ergonomic design and improved display to reduce operator fatigue and improve effectiveness in solving process issues. Representing the plant control room of the future, the Experion® Orion Console meets the changing needs of the increasingly mobile plant operator.

Operators need more than just process data to make important decisions; they need an environment that helps keep them alert, allows them to move about more freely, and presents information more intuitively. The Experion® Orion Console was designed with all of those factors in mind.

  • A new generation human interface helps operators improve plant performance and safety The console features an improved ergonomic design and better displays to simplify control system management, reduce operator fatigue and improve situational awareness. The robust design has been engineered to handle 24/7 use in ruggedised environments. Plants must be designed and built according to a company's specific production needs, but the control rooms themselves should be built around the operators' needs. The Experion® Orion Console meet's the needs of the operators so they can manage the plant more effectively and at optimum levels, which ultimately impacts plant safety, reliability and efficiency.

  • Experion® Orion Console's design was based on operator inputs gleaned from numerous visits to plant control rooms around the world and across industries, in both newer and older plants. The design and capabilities are the result of behaviour observations, as well as insights collected in multiple phases at plants, including process start-ups and during periods of abnormal operations. Operators need an environment that helps keep them alert, allows them to move about more freely, and presents information more intuitively. The Experion® Orion Console was designed with all of those factors in mind.

  • The console meets all true global ergonomic requirements and features improved displays to simplify control system management, reduce operator fatigue and improve situational awareness. The console has a mobile tablet that reduces operator fatigue by allowing personnel to move about the control room more freely. When paired with wireless-enabled mobile technologies, the system allows operators to view the same displays on hand-held devices in other areas of the plant. By addressing the fundamental ergonomic requirements Honeywell has been able to increase operator effectiveness over a greater scope of responsibility by providing faster response times, reducing fatigue, and increasing situational awareness.

  • A large flexible, ultra-high definition display that provides clear status assessments of process operations in a single glance for better and more-informed management; customisable displays for context-specific process issues; advanced alarm management and pan and zoom capabilities; limits and targets directly integrated into overview displays, allowing operation of the process closer to the optimum; and touch panel displays providing the primary operating interface that better enables operators to quickly and accurately respond to changing conditions and prevent situations that could lead to plant incidents and emergencies.

Situated on the top of the console is a clear alarm light indication panel. The alarm light changes colour and intensity to provide an indication of standing alarms and the status throughout the control room. Using a subtle illumination approach avoids adding to any control room noise and disruption. The non-obtrusive and obstructive clear illumination panel allows operators to easily see if there is something they need to attend to, this is particularly beneficial when the operator is using the mobile tablet and is away from their station.

Traditionally there has been a large amount of paperwork involved when managing large and highly complex plants. Honeywell have been able to integrate many automated procedures and step by step instructions which makes it simple to follow, easy to see whether you are on target and simple to intervene and make corrections if needed.

The modular design approach allows the Experion® Orion Console to adapt to different control room layouts where there might be a single console through to multi operator configurations. The hardware access and cable management allows for real time rapid servicing and repair through the modular removable panels and hatches
